👮♂️ Bucks County Commissioners say no ICE deal

Tom Sofield | Levittown Now
Bucks County Sheriff Fred Harran did not have the authority to seek a controversial agreement with federal immigration officials, according to the county commissioners.
A 2-1 resolution last week by the commissioners declared they have the sole power to enter the county into contracts, upending Harran’s efforts.
ICYMI: Harran applied for his agency to enter a program where some members of his office would be granted authority to perform some immigration enforcement duties typically reserved for federal agents. The application was accepted.
Harran — a Republican seeking re-election — said he only intends for his officers to use the granted powers to determine the immigration status of people already in custody or those with outstanding warrants. He has vowed his deputies would not participate in immigration raids or sweeps. The proposal was met with significant community criticism.
The county commissioners said they made the declaration under the threat of legal action regarding Harran’s agreement. The sheriff’s attorney released a statement saying the commissioners do not have the ability to prevent the pact.

🐶 Rescue Dog of the Week

James Short | Central Bucks Now
Meet Luke, a five-year-old coonhound currently being fostered by Home At Last Dog Rescue.
Luke is an active dog who loves to explore his environment. He previously lived in the city, so he is very used to lots of noise and sounds. After a day of sniffing around the world, he will happily settle down for some cuddles. Luke is crate- and house-trained and walks very well on a leash. Luke is great with other dogs and does well on car rides. A good home for him should include an active household.
If you are interested in adopting Luke or would like more information, you can reach out to Home At Last Dog Rescue at [email protected] or visit the group's website.
